Boarding a train that doesn’t stop | Urban Planning Blog

Urban Planning Blog has found a nifty video of a concept train that basically never stops. [link]

Seems like what happens is that arriving passengers head towards a smaller train on the top of the main train and this train rolls to a stop at the station while at the same time it is replaced by another smaller train of departing passengers. Confused? Watch the video.

If you’re a train nerd like me you’ll wish you spoke Chinese. Anyone?

Woman with objects fetish marries Eiffel Tower - Telegraph

Woman with objects fetish marries Eiffel Tower - Telegraph
“She revisits the massive structure as part of a documentary on Five on Objectum-Sexual women. There are around 40 people in the world who have declared themselves OS, all of them women and many of them also Aspergers Syndrome sufferers.”

One part of me wants to become the first man with the syndrome but unfortunately I do not suffer from Asperges which may make that difficult. I must see this documentary, however, perhaps that will be enough for now.

Cost of Iraq War 11 Times of Manned Mars Mission

“Way back in the day (2004), President Bush promised to send people to Mars. NewScientist reported that the cost of the mission was “expected to cost $40 billion to $80 billion”. That really seemed like a lot of money.

A year earlier, in 2003, Bush sent his country’s soldiers into Iraq. It is believed that as of September 27, 2007, the war in Iraq has cost the USA a whopping 454 Billion dollars! (and here’s even a more pessimistic estimate reported at The Boston Globe in 2006)”

Kurt Vonnegut on our Country

Excerpt from: http://www.inthesetimes.com/comments.php?id=38_0_4_0_C
“I myself feel that our country, for whose Constitution I fought in a just war, might as well have been invaded by Martians and body snatchers. Sometimes I wish it had been. What has happened, though, is that it has been taken over by means of the sleaziest, low-comedy, Keystone Cops-style coup d’etat imaginable. And those now in charge of the federal government are upper-crust C-students who know no history or geography, plus not-so-closeted white supremacists, aka “Christians,â€? and plus, most frighteningly, psychopathic personalities, or “PPs.â€?

To say somebody is a PP is to make a perfectly respectable medical diagnosis, like saying he or she has appendicitis or athlete’s foot. The classic medical text on PPs is The Mask of Sanity by Dr. Hervey Cleckley. Read it! PPs are presentable, they know full well the suffering their actions may cause others, but they do not care. They cannot care because they are nuts. They have a screw loose!

And what syndrome better describes so many executives at Enron and WorldCom and on and on, who have enriched themselves while ruining their employees and investors and country, and who still feel as pure as the driven snow, no matter what anybody may say to or about them? And so many of these heartless PPs now hold big jobs in our federal government, as though they were leaders instead of sick.

What has allowed so many PPs to rise so high in corporations, and now in government, is that they are so decisive. Unlike normal people, they are never filled with doubts, for the simple reason that they cannot care what happens next. Simply can’t. Do this! Do that! Mobilize the reserves! Privatize the public schools! Attack Iraq! Cut health care! Tap everybody’s telephone! Cut taxes on the rich! Build a trillion-dollar missile shield! Fuck habeas corpus and the Sierra Club and In These Times, and kiss my ass!”
